Want the ability to turn OFF the initial graphic while loading SS.
This seems to be DLed every time SS is loaded and only slows the loading of the game. |

The DS in front of the sun? You realize that it takes maybe 1.5 seconds for that image to load, tops?
The reason it comes in slow is because it's a loading page, the image is loaded top to bottom as a percent of the loading progress. _________________ Jey123456 wrote: That will happen in a future closer than most futures. Removing progress bars or their equivalents will not make loading something faster

There was a point in the beta where that image was not included and the SS start-up window loaded about 3X faster. |

It loads differently for different setting. I for one use preset textures and a bunch of other things to smooth my gameplay. It takes ~15 seconds.
Someone who plays on low and does not have all the fun settings on have like 10% of that time, but when it counts, warps take longer to warp through before you can control your ship again. That extra 3 to 5 seconds of no control could cost you your ship and pod in pvp as a SD. |

Well, if your computer is actually that bad, you can just make a UI mod with a blank 1 pixel image instead.

That image is a progress bar Bone. The progress being the loading off all things (specifically textures) into memory. In beta i don't think we had texture preloading.

You can still turn off texture preloading, though I don't see why you would unless you're only logging on for a second.

SS on high texture detail takes ~ 1.5 gig of Ram to hold. What you're seeing is your own system speed reflected as a nice progress bar. It has nothing to do with the server, or your bandwidth speed. If you want it faster, get a better machine. /closed |
