I could certainly tweak it all kinds of ways, but really don't think it's worth the effort because I'm pretty confident this idea is fatally flawed for several reasons.

But we can, and it looks cool!

Also, Jeff made a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUssEXdX ... ture=feedu

Would look kinda cool for some slower classes like Berserker. But not much benefit from adding it in at this stage. :3

Because SS is very fast. Thats why it's not a good idea.

If SS played like a ship+flight simulator, sure, but not what it is now.

In addition to this making things really hard to click on and making the player get lost, a lot of the graphics code is optimized to just be seen at one angle, and with momentum, seeing your ship slide sideways or backwards with the chase plane camera is extremely counter-intuitive. This sort of camera really works best with games where your ship is either always moving straight forward or else stopped.

Anyway, yeah, there's no way we're going to do this, I just implemented it quickly to show how bad it would be. =)

So wait.. It can't be done.. has been done.. but won't be implemented?

I say just leave it in as an option and let people get their self lost if they really want to. I understand it doesn't look good to YOU but to me that video looked very interesting and actually a bit fun (oh no the 'F' word).

I mean isn't this what C2 is all about, flexibility?

I'mma have to agree; while it may not be extremely practical to use, I feel it would be nice to include it. Even if C2 was originally optimized to run at a more birds-eye view.

Please include it was an option/possibility?

I'd say, add this camera mode to options. Then people can simply pop it off / on if they wish to. (default:off)

In a way it looks nice. If I wasn't so used to the current overhead fixed view for the past 8 years or so I'd probably use it.

UGH! That video made my head spin a bit! Total fail idea was a total failure. >.<

Jeff's not going to hurt the game's appeal by never including this; looking nice or cool does not mean an idea is practical.

What he was saying is true. I actually almost threw up, I couldn't believe it.

Now to try that in full screen. :D

EDIT: Eh, second time I tried it it didn't feel bad at all.

I don't see how you guys think thats actually nauseating. Just about every FPS and MMO is worse.

There were lots of little things that weren't correct with the moving camera, though. Actually implementing this in a correct way would not be a trivial amount of work.

the main idea is that new players will try it, to see if they like it

and some of them might, but they arent going to quit just because an option that they tried doesnt work, it will mean they turn it off

as a non default option, i cant see any reason not to implement it, its already been coded... (plus the video looked awesome)

The reason not to implement it is that it would take weeks of development time to properly implement it and make everything look correct and render in a timely fashion when seen at an arbitrary angle.

This. When all the other systems are functioning as intended, there will be a system of upgrades to current systems i imagine in terms of feature quality, creature comforts etc.
