Re: Pixel's working on planets/gas giants/rings!
Started to add rings now, not entirely sure if they'll be good. Click the image below to see top-down view:

Omg.... Here I was thinking that only Saturn had rings... Can you also add rings to Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune? They all have rings but in game they haven't. Would give a better feel to Sol so we can camp it even more.

Currently planets don't support glowing textures (which is defeating the blistering planets atm). Will hopefully get another developer with authority to add that ability in + to add rings to the universe generator \o/.

Re: Pixel's working on planets/gas giants/rings!
Could potentially make them a little less dominant. What about some bigger and smaller asteroids within all the dust?
I always thought the ring looks like that, since we look at them from far away. But they really consists of rocks, both big and small. The bigger rocks creates gap in the dust layer.

That's nice, could we get a screenshot of a top down view of the planet? Is it possible to make the ring less 'flat'. The color changes on the ring are quite direct, possible to make it a more gradient transition?
Otherwise, nice work on the planets.

I decided to try and see what rings on Uranus in Sol would look like; here is what I was able to do (they are less prominent than Saturn's rings because they are like that in real life.): Attachment: uranus rings.png I added the four largest rings/overlapping groups of rings to it (they should be approximately to scale with the planet size). Most of the densest of Uranus's rings were to thin to do with the texture I used as they would be less than 1 pixel thin to scale. I also made Uranus rotate (along with its rings) on a 90 degree angle similar to how it is in reality. Unfortunately I could not make the moons orbit in the same plane as the rings, so before I actually add it to the game I will try to see if I can fix that (as well as fix up the edges of the rings to be less bright)

That does look very nice though!

Looks awesome. It's the small things that makes things great! Both did a good job.

Re: Pixel's working on planets/gas giants/rings!
I recently enabled rings to form on planets during universe generation, here are some pictures below: The first two were done without any inclination of the rings being possible, the thrird one was. These pictures were made with a universe where 90% of the gas giant planets (planets with high gravity and a gaseous atmosphere) and 80% of all other planets have rings, but in the actual game the numbers for ring generation proportions should be around 20% for gas giant planets, 1.5% for all other planets, 0.1% for moons and 3% for stars.

They look bit too clean and sharp to my eyes. I wonder what it could look with some noise.

One of them in the second picture is waaaay too big for my liking. The rings shouldn't be big enough to move through other solar bodies imo
