Currently I have been adding to and modifying the moons of planets in Sol and trying to give them real-life models and textures (if possible and practical). Here are some I have done already:
New moons of Mars: Attachment: Moons of Mars.png Phobos is the largest moon, Deimos is the smaller one. New model and texture for Mimas, a moon of Saturn: Attachment: Mimas.jpg You can see the very large main crater (called Herschel) of Mimas here. Four new moons of Pluto: Attachment: Moons of Pluto.png These are just models and textures of normal asteroids in the game (I don't think there are either models or textures for these moons currently). The names of the moons going in an anticlockwise direction are: Hydra, Kerberos, Nix, Styx. I got the models and textues for Phobos, Deimos and Mimas from the 3d Asteroid Catalogue (http://space.frieger.com/asteroids/). If you want any other celestial objects in the solar system added or modified you comment about it below. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. |

Sorry for off-top, but what are the white dots on mars? Are those colonies?
If that's the case, then could we have colonies visualization revisited? C1 had dome-like colonies on planets which were cool. link |

I was hoping for something more like Where is starts off small and every certain amount of population it grows _________________ ~DarkSteel / Auxilium Universe Map: http://www.starsonata.com/map/ |

We had a talk about making colonies more visual. Just will take time as I'm currently waiting for glow maps to work on planets (for blistering lava planets), this will overwrite the current colony system. I do what to do something similar to what Dark Steel's image is.
Was a hint in this image that we're considering changing how colonies look on planets. |

What about revamping the asteroid ring in Sol to be more realistic? Currently they are all low vis anyways. I would not be shocked if alot of people don't even know that there are asteroids in there.

If you really want them to be realistic, they'd be super low vis. _________________ Hi, I'm Anil, a long-time player turned developer. I would not be shocked if alot of people don't even know that there are asteroids in there. Aren't there just like 5 roids now? Also. The moons of Mars seems a little big (even for SS). If you do those you should also add like 20-30 more around Saturn. Not sure how others feel about moons around Mars. Maybe scale them atleast a little bit down. The real ones are like 6-11 KM (our moon is 3400 KM) wide. Maybe add some comets? Might give a nice feel to sol. And maybe add the Kuiperbelt or oortcloud at the edge? _________________ Valkyrie300 wrote: You need to thoroughly think before sprouting exaggerated statements |

I added Halley's Comet to Sol; its orbit is proportioned to Earth so it is closest to the sun at around 577 distance and most far away from the Sun at a distance of around 34538, taking the same amount of time to orbit as it takes the earth to orbit 75.3 times (I am not sure how much in game time that is; it also maintains a constant speed in it's orbit as I don't think I can change it to make it more realistic) Here it is near to its furthest distance from the Sun: Attachment: Halley's Comet.png I will probably change how the trail looks; it is just hard to do because it travels very slowly. If you subscribe to the Nemesis theory that would be something really cool add to Sol.

Here is the improved appearance of the Halley's comet that I added, I also worked out that it should orbit the Sun around every 6 days, 6 hours and 45 minutes.

we need an alternate universe where the urqa won and evolved/laid dormant long enough to tolerate traders and other explorers from other cultures.

I just added the two largest asteroids (Ceres and Vesta) to Sol as planets (I know they aren't planets but I don't know of a better category to add them into the game currently).
Attachment: Ceres and Vesta.png Ceres is at the left and Vesta is on the right; their models and textures I believe were created from data from the Dawn space probe that was sent to Ceres and Vesta. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. |

They are both categorized as dwarf planets. Maybe that should be a new solar body in SS and also add 1-2 or so per gal in other gals. 1 base slot like astroids, resources act like moons (no babs and oats).
