So i used to be ashta the 2nd but quit because there seemed to be about 10 people playing the game for 10 mins a day a couple year ago.

Is the playerbase more active now?
Are bases still shit?
Is t22 stupid alien ships still end game?
How long does it take to get a fresh account back up to being a viable end game player again?

Hello, nice to see an old player returning. The community is small but decently active at the moment, I think. Bases are pretty good – it's not too easy to kill them with player ships. T22 Alien ships are still in use but there are some new Kalthi-themed ships that are better in some cases, plus some other new content besides.

Bases got rebalanced recently, PVB is really hard now while BVB has some glaring problems from what I've heard.

For the fresh account bit, well, define 'viable end gamer'. If you mean T20, I suppose you can just sit in Copper a bit, then camp a DG to get levels quickly. T20 missions and stuff would be problematic if you don't have a team, I haven't seen the LFG chat used ever.

As for how active the game is, you might have to judge that yourself. It doesn't feel very active to me.

Playerbase is virtually non existent compared to any time in SS history and endgame players are quitting all the time. Game has some pretty massive balance issues.

Our highest in the last 2 years was September 2014 at around 725.

We had a spike around March this year at 680, but last year in September it got as low as 500.

So, we've got ups and downs (from uni resets, I'd imagine, as there's spikes every 3 months or so. The spike at the end of March died off early April and we've hovered around 610 since then. The last few weeks have since a bit of fall off.

There seems to be a bit of trend of drop offs around September (at least the last 4 years), so maybe that low number is just people thinking "Time to quit SS and school hard"?

That's actually quite depressing when you think about how many of those are just alts that only get used at the beginning and end of universes for base slots or for MCing. :|
