I'd like to note war has not been declared, and I was baited into Perilous Space by this player claiming to want an invite into Sparta.

It was a fair kill, a typical sneaky pirate ambush kill and I look forward to facing more members - hopefully in more honourable circumstances.

Have not ever said that.

And to chip in on the seperation of characters thing: I dont believe what you do on one character should be entirely seperated from another.
If i scammed with an alt on another team, i would fully expect to be dealt with as DP on SP.
If i pirated with an alt on another team, i again would fully expect to be treated as DP on SP.

Similarily in this situation, if a person from DM places an alt on SPARTA to attack SP with, we would consider this an act of aggression from all of his characters, not just the one on SPARTA.
