Sorry forgot to mention, at low levels cloaking is nigh impossible due to augs and cloaks being, for lack of a better term, weak as shit. So, the HR+ will supply you with enough speed and agility to hopefully stay alive long enough to clear the level.

isn't it a better idea then to choose speed demon class first until you can get a decent enough cloak and augs, and then reclass to sniper?

and which tech level do you need for the cloaks/augs that are 'good enough' for snipers?

The first ship that I would personally suggest going stealth with is the Space Blue Beta. The reflectivity and vis are quite low, coupled with decent speed, and good hullspace, and at that level there are augs good enough to keep you effectively hidden. The resists are going to be a bit of a problem, but even then it's still a good solid ship to start hiding in.

As for SD, I could never really tell the difference between copper SD and copper sniper leveling in an HR+. They both seemed to do the job pretty quickly for me. However if you're looking to go faster than that get an engineer on your team to lay charges in the first few levels of copper as you hit them with Mini Blue Alpha Drones - Blue Beta Drones.

I liked the snowflake until i was shot twice with an fire beam from some ai...

That's when i saved up for an equan and decided to use my zeus+ aug i got lucky getting, my setup was more for leveling though because of the space it took up, thank goodness for sniper hull modifications, gota equip gear in a spacific order
>.<

My setup was

Equan (The normal nut ship, nothin special)

Weapon: Giga cati
Energy: OS Yallow
Augs: Zues+, Greener, Qa (Zeus aug is ok, i just happen to have a +)
Shield: Basil sheeth (Upgrade to basil mega when ya can, not unnecessary)
Pod: Escape pod lll (Cuz its fun to spin when dead :P)
Engine: Zebra Muscle (i had a contrast something before the ZM)
Warp Device: Broomstick
Shield Charger: What ever i had room for, eventually got a Madman's charger
Cloak: Just keep updating it, i couldnt find a good one :(
Tractor: Optional, use something small with good range

The ship was bulky and even with the t20 engine it had really bad turning and acceleration. But it was my ship and i was happy with it for a while. Now i use a juju t20... Plan on getting a absentis and sticking with that as my endgame unless a chance for a Poseidon Wave comes along, then ya know, like any sniper ill jump at it ;P

Currently use
Ship: Jujuso'kra
Shield: Basil Mega Sheeth
Energy: O.S. Yallow
Engine: Zebra Muscle
Augmenters: Greener, Qa, Zeus+
Cloak: Built in*
Weapon: Pulsious Sharp Shooter (PSS), Zebra Torpedo*[evil] (There nice :P)
Tractor: Reindeer harness
Shield Charger: Madman's Charger

Just remember that snowflake in a non fire environment has that handy little built in parasite weapon... It does crap tons a damage if used right.

Also, once you do start playing a stealthy sniper, don't forget to invest in a microwarp of some kind. Witch's Broomstick is nice and cheap, and while 500 range is not much, it can be just enough to get yourself out of an AI's detection range and save your life.

Currently use
Ship: Jujuso'kra
Shield: Basil Mega Sheeth (Now that emp's prot is less than 3 bil, it can definitely replace)
Energy: O.S. Yallow
Engine: Zebra Muscle (Thrust in Shadows is not hard to obtain and actually is meant for sniper)
Augmenters: Greener, Qa, Zeus+ (CaL is easily better than Qa considering built-in cloaks and sniper skills make you stealthy enough)
Cloak: Built in*
Weapon: Pulsious Sharp Shooter (PSS), Zebra Torpedo*[evil] (There nice :P) (Don't forget hot glue sprayer, stygian fist, and zebra spitter)
Tractor: Reindeer harness
Shield Charger: Madman's Charger (Primal Zebra Charger is the best)

Just remember that snowflake in a non fire environment has that handy little built in parasite weapon... It does crap tons a damage if used right. The fire weakness should only be bothersome against qokuji'qis. Icepicks' plasmite lasers are too insignificant to matter and 95% of all high end AI have no heat damage.
