Star Sonata Chat Tutorial

    Introduction

-----The in-game chat is one of the most helpful, and at times entertaining aspects of the game. It's the key to communicating with other players and can also be used to execute several commands such as Autopilot, Lag Killer settings, and much more. Everybody from level 5s in The Nexus to level 4,000s in Olympus use the chat to help communicate. Let's start with some basics![/size]

    Rules and Mutes

-----Before you run off and start talking you should read the rules and see what is and isn't ok to talk about.

    Chat Rules wrote:
    General Chat Rules
Unless otherwise stated general chat rules apply to all chats. These chat rules also apply to Base Names & Descriptions

  • Comments that discriminate against gender, sexuality, race, or religion will not be tolerated. Harassment and real life threats will not be tolerated. If a person asks you to stop, you stop.
  • Circumventing the swear filter via repeated misspelling is not allowed.
  • Abusive or sexually explicit language is not allowed.
  • Using an inappropriate character name is not allowed.
  • Languages other than English in public chats are not allowed.
  • Discussion about hacking the game or cheating is not allowed.
  • Impersonating an Admin or a Moderator is not allowed.
  • Posting links to Pornographic, or inappropriate websites is not allowed. Please note that Star Sonata is not responsible for the content of the website our players link to, and as such cannot be held liable if a link posted by a player has malicious content.
  • Spamming or Instigating Spam is not allowed. This includes flooding the chat with two or more lines of nonsensical text, text that is for no purpose other than annoying the playerbase, repeated usage of all caps, or 5+ lines of one person talking.
  • Conversations or Trade Chat posts about buying/selling accounts/credits/subscriptions are not allowed in the public chats. This also applies to any other way of publicly advertising it, such as the bulletin board and in base descriptions.
  • Mutes and bans are not to be discussed on the public chats; if you have a problem with a warning, mute, or ban please create a support ticket athttp://www.starsonata.com/support. The same goes for complaints about chat & forum moderators; if you have an issue please create a ticket.
  • If a chat moderator warns you to stop a conversation before it gets out of hand then stop.
  • Do not advertise trades in all chat. Trades belong in trade chat. Using all chat to point to trade chat is not allowed. Price checks however, are allowed in any chat, including all chat.
  • Consistent breaking of chat rules will result in extended mutes and even permanent mutes.
  • Using SS for advertising purposes is not allowed.

As all players should be familiar with the rules, there are no warnings given anymore. Getting muted repeatedly will result in extended or permanent mutes.

Game rules were updated on October 15, 2012 2122 MST (GMT -6)

  • -----If you're caught breaking of the these rules there is a decent chance you'll be muted. Not to worry though they will typically will only go to a two hour mute at the most; however, the moderator may do more or less depending on the offense. If you continue to break the rules you'll get a permanent mute. As you may of guessed this mute is permanent. Mutes also are account wide so talking on a alt will do you no good.

    User Interface

This is what your chat will look like upon starting the game for the first time.
    Image

-----To send a message you need to simply press the 'enter' key and start typing. Alternatively you may click on the tab you wish to talk into and begin typing. To send you message just press the 'enter' key again. You can cycle through previously sent messages using the 'up arrow' key.

  • Event - This is where you can find a lot of useful information of you know how to use it. Every time you dock at a base, warp into a galaxy, or something dies it'll be recorded in Event Chat. You can use the '/help' command to get a list of every command you can use in game and a description. They range from your ignore list to changing lag killer settings. A good rule of thumb is that if you're not sure what the command will do it's best not to use it.

  • All - Just like the name implies this is where everybody will talk at. You may talk about whatever you'd like here provided you're not breaking the rules.

  • Galaxy - This chat is only accessible to players in the same galaxy as you. It's a great way to talk to people close to you.

  • Trade - If you're ever looking to buy or sell something or even advertise your shop this is the spot. There is a limit of one message every three minutes to prevent spam but only applies to trade chat.

  • Help - This chat is for players under level 100 the only people allowed to talk here are Administrators, Moderators, Greeters, and other people under level 100. If you have a question take it here.

  • Team - You'll only see this chat when you're on a team. Just as the name implies this chat is for everybody in your team to talk about whatever you'd like. If your team's bases or drones are shot by another player a warning message will appear here as well.

  • Squad - This chat will only appear if you're in a squad. It'll show any and all items scooped by your squad mates and you may also chat here with anybody in your squad.

  • Personal Messages - This chat will only show when somebody sends you a personal message. This message is private and nobody can see it but you and the person on the other end.

-----If there is a tab that has an orange glow that means there are unread messages. Upon clicking on that tab it'll return to blue until new messages are received.

  • Chat with unread messages - Image
  • Chat with no unread messages - Image

-----If you've ever wanted to watch more than on channel at one time there is a way to do that. If you hold down the Control button and click on the tabs you want to merge together you can watch them all at once. The only tab you can talk into though is the one with the small white arrow above it. To ungroup different tabs click on the 'X' next to them.

    Chat Commands

-----Chat commands are probably the least understood part of chatting. Some can be very confusing but we'll walk through some of the major ones and see what everything does. To see a list of every command in game type '/help' into chat and look at your Event Chat.

  • /ap "Galaxy Name"-- This will start an Autopilot course to the specified galaxy

  • /help -- Will display every possible command and a short description

  • /ignore "Player Name" -- Will hide every message from this character

  • /list -- Will display every player currently being ignored

  • /unignore "Player Name" -- Will unignore the specified player

  • /w "Player Name" -- Will send a private message to the specified player. Any names with spaces must be inside a set of quotation marks.

  • /enemies -- Will show all enemies to you and your team

  • /like -- Will remove hate from the specified.

  • /lockout -- Will display all lockouts and the time remaining in event chat

  • /mc "Item Name" - Will check the market for the item specified. The spelling must be exact or no item will be found

  • /resetslave -- Will set all slaves in the galaxy to 'Follow Me'

  • /wars -- Will show all current wars against you and/or teamates.

Notice: Yea I got busy so the guide is going to be the way it is. I can't work on it.

It's a competition. As I understand it, competitions normally require more than one person to compete. At least that's what Topbuzz says anyway

well i thought it would be dumb to have to wait 1 week to find someone cant actually be bothered to post a tutorial. Otherwise I would of created 7 alt accounts on the day of the comp release and claimed them all! then sold the slots..

This is how I see it. To have an overview on who wants to do what, you post a claim in the topic Bageese made. space_spartan didn't even do that.

Bageese wrote:
1. Claim a tutorial here. You can only have 1 tutorial claimed at a time.

Now, it doesn't say that two players can't have the same claim, but it says the following.

Bageese wrote:
I encourage you guys to work together!!!! If someone claimed your topic PM them! You both can get a prize! Feel free to create a "WIP" post in guides if you need to have a place to collaborate.

Now, I claimed the topic after contacting Septagons about his claims, and I got a clearance from him to work on the chat guide.

So that is why I wanted to have him contact me about my claim, because the least thing he could do is to ask if we should work together (which Bageese encourages), but he didn't do such a thing.

Is it really that hard to follow those 8 simple steps...

Edit: For some reason I see that he did post a claim (even before me), but it has been edited. I entered the topic before I went to bed, and didn't update the first page before I responded in the morning, so I had no chance of seeing the edited claim. Guess that is sort of my bad then.

its a competition after all, which should not be about who is quickest to post on a thread and type the word "claimed"

nobody is stopping you making a better guide, as thats the aim of the competition to get the best content for the website.

I think they should have a bunch of "nice try" secondary hand outs too as prizes, I expect there may be elements of people guides who don't win, that still may be used somewhere.
