Post Copernicus's Promethium Run Tutorial
Second Draft. EDITED Feb. 3

Quote:
So, you're a low-to-mid level player with a base you want to make money with, but you're not much into managing colonies. What's a good method to make money then? Why, a promethium run!

Wait, what is a "promethium run"? I'm glad I asked! A promethium run is when you mine fermium from an asteroid belt, convert it to promethium, and sell it to AI bases.

Now, not all asteroid belts and clusters contain fermium. Clusters, for the sake of this tutorial, are asteroids that seem to orbit nothing and only contain either metal or silicon. The places you will find fermium are the asteroid belts orbiting stars. You can also sometimes find them being spawned by and floating away from certain types of stars, but these are rare and produce fermium at a slow rate. Your best bet is a run-of-the-mill asteroid belt.

Before you start base building, you'll need a couple of Nuclear Convo-Tronics to convert fermium into promethium. You can buy these from Lavanite for 5,000,000 credits apiece.

Once you have plopped a base down in the belt, or, prefferably if it has space oats, a nearby planet, it's time to set your slaves to work. They will mine mostly metal and silicon from the asteroids, but fermium will be fairly common too. Make sure you either have plenty of space or are also selling off the metal and silicon or your base will fill up quickly and your mining slaves won't be able to offload until you make room.

Now that you have promethium stacking up in your base, it's time to start selling it. A good ship to have running the trade route is a Hotrod or Hotrod+ with 5 Basic Speed Augmenters so that it can run the route before the promethium decays. The way to set up the route is to make sure you have plenty of Programming skill (found in Iq' Bana and some random galaxies), this will allow you to hit more AI bases. A mistake people can make is to set up the run to only one AI base, but AI bases will lower their prices and ultimately stop buying the more of a commodity they have, so you need to set up the route to hit multiple AI bases in multiple galaxies. This way, when one AI base is filled, your slave will sell to the next one on the route and you can continue to make money.

With your route set up, it's time to sit back (or go level, whatever) and watch the credits roll in. To make sure you get profit, have your base sell to your slave for less than the AI bases buy it. With this setup, most of the profit will pile up in your slave, and you can transfer it to your coffers with the [X] menu.

If set up right, a good route can bring up to a few hundred million credits per week. Enjoy your new found riches!
