The reason I advocate for a rework of the drone system is that it is unfair to newer players; the price of drones and the availability will skyrocket with a massive influx of new players. Temporary weapons that can be lost on a whim are not very appealing to new players.

Especially in a PvP scenario. You know what is targeted first in PvP? Not the healers keeping everyone alive, but the engineer's drones. Solely due to the fact that it will cost an engineer X amount of credits and it will potentially disable their ability to fight back or be of any real threat until they replace their drones.

That is not okay from any viewpoint, including cost, utility, or balance wise. You cannot justify a person being useless in a pvp scenario because they were killed once; it just isn't fair.


Biggee's opinion carries a lot of wait in my books when discussing Engineers. I'll open up a new post with a drone repair suggestion and see what kind of reaction it gets.

Semi-alternative suggestion:
Drones blow up like bases do, leaving a "destroyed" version behind. Destroyed version acts like a dead base, doesnt shoot, cant be used as a tank. Scoop it and you get the drone back, but damaged.

A nice way of implementing it into the repair system.

True, in the same meaning as bases going to stasis. So, i find this idea easyer to implement, doesnt change game mechanics(generators, which i do like), fits in with the repair system. What are the counters?

I agree with re-balancing the drone mechanism a bit although I don't know how.
I also think that offensive engineer as Thermal described should stay a viable option for the class. No devs go figure something out :P

Buy a Roswell. Buy basic gear. Undock. Use its drone generator. Fly around with you temp drone. Come back.

Hmm, didn't think of that at the moment. Roswell drones are nice, but by changing game mechanics, i mean't that currently a droner can lay 6 AIDs(or whatever drone you prefer) within a few seconds(moving time), with drone gens there would be no way to do that, which would change the way that droners work. Then again, drone stasis would need some implementing. I find those ideas equal.

Drone generators do nothing to the drone, the time to charge each drone, and how much elect needed in the charge. If you took 20 seconds and 10k elect to charge a drone now, you'd still take 20 seconds and 10k charge to charge the gen afterwards.

If it was 6 drones, if you took 2 minutes and 100k charge, you'd still take 2 mins and 100k charge.

The only differences a drone gen would be over what it is now is that:

1. When you kill the drone, it's not the end of the world and have to replace the whole drone problem.
2. If the drone dies or times out, you wait X time(balanced according to drone) before you can recharge the gen again and have a new drone.
3. The generator gets durability damage and must be repaired at a base as if it was some sort of weapon or shield that got damaged.


Super Item drone generators, like the ones on the AWC and Roswell are not damaged due to being super items.

They are limited to 1 drone at a time. That's the point. They can never be used to place multiple drones at a time with this system.

Thats why I said, 1 generator is attributed to 1 drone. When you do a perp motion mission or build with a bp, you can get multiple. Well, swap every mission reward and build result drone with the generator that would produce said drone, and boom, we have gens.
