So you sit there and let yourself and your drones take damage...right. That works just fine until, i don't know, ANYTHING DANGEROUS comes along :P

Heck, even a single cleft can do a crapload of damage if you aren't able to dodge their incins. And chances are you're not going to see just one at a time in w2 :P

sawtooth comes along, if it attacks you you press S, then it goes in front of you and you kill it. if a swarm of 30 clefts come and rape you well, thats just bad luck :P

Believe it or not, for a low level player, saws can take a while to kill :P

And oftentimes you don't have that time to spare when a cleft is inserting flaming...stuff...up your engine port.

Just before I reset that alt to gunner to find that even more things can kill me, the situation that spurred me to change class from engineer was the fact I came across this while leveling, and almost lost all my drones from it:

1 Space Blue Beta and 1 Sawtooth to start.

Killed the Beta. Second Sawtooth popped in.

A Cleft Thorn and a second Beta popped in.

Died.

Drone kills second beta and one of the saws within the last 10 hitpoints of its life. The others had to be scooped as EVERYTHING went for me and instead of my drones. The Saws locked my turning so I knew they'd all kill me because I'd be out of range of my drones, so I tried scooping all in hopes that I could save them.

The Cleft left when I died.

Note: I tend to pack my alts with good gear and good drones and drone augs. Newer players tend to don't have the gear or the drones.

Yeah, Collision code took a big hit with C2. Warps offer some protection, but not nearly as much as in c1. Planets and suns are almost a joke. You can only block shots if they are on the other side of the planet. I find that useful maybe 10% of time, compared to C1 when you could use a planet as a safe zone.

I have also found it very hard to use drones to block shots in C2. Most of the time, I just act like there is no protection from anything, because it almost seems that way.



The only strategy for low level dms against a saw is Lay and Pray. They actually have decent shields at that level, and it is usually hard to pump out enough dps to kill them( when they usually come in packs of 2). ofc, i didnt have a problem with that when i could lay 5-6 arsons at level 300. :roll:

Some points:
Saws are NOT made of paper.
It's not the damage of saws that's annoying, it's the -100% turning. For most people of that level it literally cripples you. Even i, at lvl 400 have been killed multiple times just because of saws, by AI, that i could normally smash with no effort.

And btw, sawtooth-500-600 or rarely even 800 range.
While droners at that level mainly use magics-400 range.
So laying your drones and just letting them to the job is not gonna work.

Sawtooths are ~ level 150.


As said multiple times:

1. Saws do not kill you; other AI's in the gal kill you while your engines are locked.

2. Saws in groups murder slaves if you can't get all of them on you instantly.

...Which only helps players who are playing damage resistant slow builds. Which is what your complaint really is.

Sawtooth's go 75. SawtoothX's go 95. Their lasers are range 400 - 700 or so.

If you're going up against them, there's plenty of solutions: OBAs, faster ship, tracking weapons, envelopes, missile spam to present decoy, tech 5 mini-warper... and so on and so forth.

Hint: both have paper-thin shields. If your drones can't do the damage to them to kill a single one, you're doing it wrong.


Reavers don't have 100% turn due to having 1.5++k range, fyi.


Look! A dev suggesting missile spam! THE dev who made missile spamming extremely unaffective.

Seriously though, they don't have paper thin shields. They're as hard to kill as any AI, if not moreso. At least, it seems to take that long to kill them. Maybe they're just resistant to common damage types, or something?

Or maybe it's that you can't shoot them properly, so they take less damage...

They use a damn Flux Enchantment iirc the other one aint a big improvment from it and load of shit would help against it , deploy a drone and hold S, kill it.
If your unable to kill a saw ur doing something wrong becouse i only felt those bastards when SWARMING was alowed, they made hell whit Prettyboy swarms
