I think wild bots would be a lot more balanced, versatile & fun to play with if their gear was dependent on the skills of their owner. If you wanted to take it a step further you could make wild bot DPS a function of the owner's non-wild bot DPS.

The goal of this would be to allow almost any non-boss AI to be cappable by players of any skill level without giving brokenly OP power.

Making wild-bot DPS a function of combat-bot DPS would add the constraint that a player would have to invest in their regular combat bots. Ideally I'd like to see the wild-bot DPS stat dependant on combat-bots that are i) within a given radius of the player and ii) not in stasis without a significant dropoff in order to to ensure that players i) invest in combat bots ii) the overall DPS is relatively straightforward to balance and iii) to give an incentive for players to keep non-wild combat bots actually in combat.

I'd like to see wild bots keep their individual pre-capped flavour, perhaps this could be done by making AI only versions of their gear balanced as determined by the balance sheet for each tech level, and having this gear equipped on capture of the bot depending on the player's skill levels.
