X & Y are actually really good. I was surprised, I am a genwunner so I really didn't like any of the Pokemon games after Gen One (except Gen Three because Groudon and Rayquaza were awesome), but X & Y are really legit.
The things that they have done with EV training, IV Breeding, Nature Breeding, Hidden Abilities, shiny pokemon hunting, etc... is insane. What they more or less did was took the super competitive aspects of the game that most people never touched because they were over complicated and took days to properly breed and train IVs, EVs and natures made it all easily accessible and doable within a few hours.
What it more or less means is that your play through team can easily be as strong as an actual competitive team if you play smart through the game. My only complaint was actually that the elite four was way too easy because I had been using pokemon with good natures for their roles and EV training them before actually using them, in the end it meant that the elite four and champion altogether only got like 3-4 attacks in on me.
