I just read several reviews about a new true 3D game called "No Man's Sky" that is being developed by a team in the UK.
All new players start out in their own little corner of the same galaxy. At first there are only AI to contend with ... be they friendly or plan on having you on their dinner menu. You can actually land on and explore planets, space stations, etc. You can mine, hunt bounty on unfriendly AI, and several other ways to make enough money to upgrade your space suit, space ship and gear. One more thing ... it's a first person game. |

Speaking of concussions, I regularly meet a guy called Bonecrusher on Hearthstone ranked play. I fireball him in the face as much as possible.
On topic: this game looks like the space game to end all space games. The final frontier. I'll be holding my breath and following it closely. _________________ Star Sonata is not ready for a release on Steam. See this topic for what we think should be done about it. viewtopic.php?f=107&t=59132 |

That looks quite similar to Vendetta Online

Yes it's a threat, but not in the way you think it is. Whereas the "goal" of SS is empire-building and picking up phat lewtz, in NMS the emphasis is on exploration first, with the option to group up with other players present in the game. Due to the scale of the universe ("planet-sized planets"), it's unlikely (or hopefully unlikely) that you'll actually run into any real player unless you go out of your way to coordinate such a meeting.
"SS killers", however, already exist. While there are no true sandboxes or anything (SPAZ gets remarkably close though), I can name three right off the bat: Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages; Space Pirates And Zombies; and Gimbal. The first two are definitely worth the $10, although Gimbal is more for those who are looking for some PvP action. |

To be honest, I don't think it can get anywhere close to the greatness of 'Limit Theory'. Despite having been developed by only one person, the progress has been huge.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGP7S2O ... YXIgaY4PHg is a video of him producing a coding breakthrough with the game, allowing him to code even faster than before. You can check the other LT videos on the guy's channel. I might not know much about coding, and what real skill means in terms of coding, he sure as hell seems to know what he's doing. Likewise, he's done an incredible job as a lone developer/coder. A quick summary of the game would be that everything is procedurally generated, from factions, empires, corporations, ships (architecture and placement of modules (engines/generators can be damaged, etc)), colonies, bases, solar systems, economies, in-game items (equipment, engines, w/e), etc. All in all, it seems to be just a lot better than NMS, even though that opinion might simply stem from my liking of empire-building based games. LT would be a more technical and economical version of NMS that also seems much more realistic, given what NMA's devs promise for the game. Either way, LT is what I would suggest for people to look forward to more than to NMS. |
