I've finally decided to build my own desktop. Except I have no idea where to start. Everyone keeps telling me how easy it is but I don't get it lol.
I'm mostly going to use it for gaming, video recording and streaming. I'm looking at a $800 or so budget. Anyone have some builds they like to share or websites? _________________ "I still miss the Crack Whores..." - Jeff_L |

Very similar site, but I'm a big fan of http://pcpartpicker.com

A decent resource and plenty of people willing to help (and some trolls) over at https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds.

Also, you currently have 4 RAM positions on your motherboard and only one stick. Instead of getting one 8gb get four 4gb/8gb you will get better performance because you won't bottleneck your processor on the RAM. More RAM on one stick isn't necessarily better than less RAM on four sticks, since the processor can talk to each stick of RAM simultaneously. |

Also, didn't really look at the cases, but you should watch a video review of them to find out how they are for cooling and whether you should get more fans to mount inside.
Finally, not sure if you just forgot, or you don't want it, but you don't have a BluRay/DVD/CD drive, so you won't be able to use discs (which is fine you don't need one, if you aren't using discs). |

I literally just put my budget into those sites and thats what was built for me, had to start somewhere. Appreciate the feedback, ill definitely be doing some more research on it.
One thing that confuses me though, is that some people say that a 2 4G RAM is actually worse then one 8G RAM cause you will always get the slower performance of the two RAMs. Someone mind explaining this to me? _________________ "I still miss the Crack Whores..." - Jeff_L |

No that is in regards to mixing sizes so the idea is that if you have two 8s and two 4s, the 4s will cripple the eights. But as long as all your RAM is the same size/type you will get no performance loss (and even then adding a 4gb stick next to an 8 isn't going to lose performance, it's just not going to benefit you as much as putting an 8 next to an 8). Basically as long as you have enough RAM that your computer isn't using it up entirely you have more than enough. At which point dual channel configurations come into play, basically it will hypothetically double the bandwidth between your processor and your memory. So basically if you have 1 8gb card, and you never use more than 4gb of your memory, then four 2gb cards would be better since you are getting faster access to your RAM for your processor and you are still exceeding your need for RAM. Obviously you want more RAM so you don't have to upgrade a few months down the line. I personally use four 4gb cards, in your case I would definitely suggest the two 4gb cards over the one 8gb. That way if you do need to upgrade your RAM you can just get 2 more 4gb sticks and double your RAM. |

Definately use this site. It gives you sort of cookiecutter builds for each price point. Say if you are set on a certain CPU, then you can use the table to find out what is the "equivalent" GPU, mobo etc. _________________ |
