I don't usually give warning. If someone is intentionally spamming chat like that I insta mute them. Also, if someone else give you a warning (even a non-mod) I consider it grounds to mute if you continue in that line.
When asked to be a mod, I requested a "ground rules" primer, and was told simply that a mute does not hurt anyone, and to error on the side of safety (low-tolerance) when it comes to stopping spamming/harrasment/whatever. If someone else is spamming, and you join in in any way, you are far more likely to get muzzled because of the mentality of "stopping the spam." I've probably made sopme questionable mutes in my time simply because 3 people were all going in some manner and then a 4th piped in a little and at an inopportune time. |

It hurts someone if they happen to be flying around in a thatch full of items and you mute the person they are co-ordinating with..
