We currently have the opportunity to make a major server upgrade to a quad core and save a lot of money at the same time if we move our server to Kattare.com. That money could go into development or advertising and the much faster server would have less game-lag.

The only down side is that Kattare is in Oregon on the West Coast of the US while our current server is in Florida and much closer to Europe. Ping times to the new location for people in the US, AU, and NZ look to be about the same as ping times to liquidweb.com, our current provider, but the couple people I have asked in Europe have reported ping times of 60ms to 90ms higher to Kattare than to LiquidWeb.

People seem to play OK in AU and NZ with fairly high ping times, so I'm really not sure what sort of affect a ping jump from ~120ms to ~200ms would do to the European customers. It might not be that noticable, but it might be. Anyone in Europe want to post your ping differences and/or weigh in on the topic?

Im in NZ, and my ping times are both practically the same, around 260ms. It might sound high but it does not lag in the slightest for me.

Mine was around 90 and I'm in Colorado.

I hope the new Server improves SS more then when they replaced the old server with this one.

not sure if this matters or not, but im in Indiana, and my ping to kattare is 85, and my ping to liquidweb is 41...

thats prolly not a noticeable difference....

When I do experience lag it can be a real bitch. Your flying around killing zebu+, and lag hits and suddenly the healer and the healee gets seperated. Before they can get back together, the healee might be dead allready. But whether this is mostly caused by server lag, or internet lag I really don't know, and thus don't know whether it would be a improvement or not.

With my high ping, I still only experience lag when everyone else does, I don't get any extra, so I don't think it will be too great an issue.

That would be from Sweden. If you save a lot of money on this and at the same time get a better server I'd say it's probably worth the risk. I have no idea how those ping times would affect the game though. The majority of the players are from US anyway.
