SS is looking for a sound designer. You may have noticed that we don't have that many sounds in the game, and the ones we do have aren't that great. We have a long list of sounds needed if anyone is interested in joining the development team in this capacity.
Basically, what you need to do is either record sound samples and manipulate them using a sound editor or else find public domain sounds or find sounds for purchase that are either usable or else modifiable into a useable form. We can provide a budget for the purchase of sounds. Please no copyrighted sounds. The most important requirement is that you have a good sense of what sort of quality of sound is required. If you can tell what is good and what isn't, then you can manipulate and try things until you come up with something good. Ok jeff, Im on it. Ive got a few contacts im speaking with right now, and hopefully tomorrow morning or evening Ill have somthing good to send you as far as information goes. If you or another dev could pm me with a list of basics as companies are looking at what kind of sounds they will be producing (helping to narrow down the right place to get them)

Well, as far as what we're looking for is simple wavs like what you can already find in the install directory. We have a list of sounds needed listed as follow, but I'm sure we can think of even more sounds we should have:
autopilot engaged autopilot arrived autopilot error rat squeaking -- we have space rats. yep. Nothing to Scoop (error sound or empty scoop sound) escape pod -- you escape from your ship in a little pod dying to spirit -- when you die in your pod you become a spirit buying/selling in bases -- trading of items place drone -- deploying an automated defensive unit in space place base -- making your own spacestation new bounty on your head -- you've become a wanted criminal ship/credit scanning -- scanning a ship to see what it contains, or how much money it has failed warp -- something went wrong tractor beam -- dragging something or someone engines? -- some kind of droney sound when engine is engaged: probably a few for different types of engines * different explosion sounds based on damage type: laser, heat, physical, surgery, radiation - should make new explosion sounds. most the ones we have aren't that good. equip aug control bot engaged -- making a slave ship active control bot deactivated diffuser overloading and failing (exploding maybe) weapon overloader failing & exploding cloaking decloaking shield powerup used energy powerup used Shooting a fire shot Shooting a mag cannon Shooting a base laser (more powerful sounding than normal laser) switching weapons warping within a dungeon (like normal warp sound, but a little more ominous) ambient sound for being near a hot sun select (target) teammate select neutral ship select base select planetary object select hostile shil select inventory item enter stasis -- your ship enters a stasis field when its shields go to zero. eventually the stasis comes out when the shields recharge leave stasis giving an order to a slave ship establishing a colony on a planet astral injection queue fighter into fighter bay fighter launches fighter returns queue missile into missile launcher missile launches missile explosion bases: construction began -- giving orders to build things construction finished new good trading -- putting up something for sale bought/sold goods |

Yes, for most of the new sounds I want to add, they need to be relatively subtle and non-annoying. For example, the sounds for selecting things should be slightly different quit clicks or soft beeps.

I have Factory of Sound and several audio editors and audio file converters.
I will find some time after Friday (our Q1 end) to work on some sounds. I have helped out with other games in the past for sounds (which is what I am good at)... not coding or suggesting ideas that require coding IF they are to be quality wav files then I will need to use 100% manufactured sounds not sounds based on actual recordings so it will take a little longer. Expect to receive somewhere in the region of 10 a week with my current workload. When I spam you with loads of awesome sounds I will use the same file names as the desctiprions above. In-game credits / items is fine for payment as I have enough RL cash... so zero actual cost to you |
