Think how often you can right-click to give things orders. In real RTSs, units acknowledge orders with speech, though usually short. I think we should try it. A good example of this would be Halo Wars (only game I played like that. XD). When you tell troops to move or attack something, they say something like. "On our way", "Affirmative", or "Going". The speech could be as simple as that... Going, Engaging, Affirmative, Okay, Attacking. _________________ Javatech wrote: Battlecruiser23 wrote: I am a Troll, ignore everything I say. Also add the option to turn off unit acknowledgments. When SS is compared to something like Starcraft, we would issue far less orders in a day than an SC player does in an hour. I wouldn't want to turn it off, but some people will.
Variety is good too, if slaves always say the same exact thing for an order it will get annoying fast. _________________ Jey123456 wrote: That will happen in a future closer than most futures. Those games have many different voices for different units, as well as utilize a wide variety of voice-acted lines for even those simple commands in order to avoid pure repetition. It's probably out of Star Sonata's both budget and needs to pay voice actors to perform all of these lines. And if only a single line is used it would probably become quite annoying to hear after a while. _________________ Fucking loot... |

This means you can use the same voice (someone has a monopoly on 'bots I guess) for all ships. As for variety, I could just make a number of acknowledgements for each order. For example: [X] Attack My Target "Attacking target!" "Affermative!" "Engaging!" "Target locked!" "In pursuit!" [X] Dock and Deactivate "Beginning docking procedure." "Entering docking pattern." "Preparing to dock." And so on. _________________ P2P (Offline): Copernicus/Tycho/Kepler/Starlight Squadron/Starlight Droners Inc. Hell, you could use like Microsoft Sam to do it. XD _________________ Javatech wrote: Battlecruiser23 wrote: I am a Troll, ignore everything I say. JeffL wrote: Are you kidding me? The issue is in that it sounds like it'd get annoying hearing a single thing every time a common command is issued to a slave. Additional lines could be given, but that requires voice-acting lines and post-processing the audio. As nice as it would be, it seems to me to not be worth the time and money to get it right considering Star Sonata's budget. _________________ Fucking loot... |

The issue with RTS commands: Players including myself would be glad to record the responses. Annoying/Need more speed? Speed it up! RTS's do anyway (I worked with a modding team for RA3, I know what Im saying.)
Also, as an action music thing: basic motion 30 rage 30 also works _________________ Star Sonata is not ready for a release on Steam. See this topic for what we think should be done about it. viewtopic.php?f=107&t=59132 |

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut I'd not argue against a free sub for a month... But yea, if I keep at it, I might be able to modulate my own voice to sound like various bots. Maybe even short sound bites for major AI characters. You arrive at East Vindia and open a mission file. A voice greets you saying, "Call me Ismail..." _________________ P2P (Offline): Copernicus/Tycho/Kepler/Starlight Squadron/Starlight Droners Inc. In the game Escape Velocity, AI escorts would say "scratch one" whenever they killed something. That was always satisfying to me.

Would it be possible to give ubers voices for shouts? Or is that just too far?

I don't want to promise anything since I'm learning the software as I go, but I won't say it's impossible either. It would be neat... _________________ P2P (Offline): Copernicus/Tycho/Kepler/Starlight Squadron/Starlight Droners Inc. F2P: Colonel Mustang/Riza Hawkeye/Jean Havoc/Heymans Breda/Kain Fuery |

jeff mc beth wrote: Would it be possible to give ubers voices for shouts? Or is that just too far? The functionality for something like this is already possible in the game, I added it when I wrote the code that allowed us to do boss scripting. We would just need to add a few lines to the boss scripts either in place of or supplementary to the galaxy shouts, and record and add the appropriate sound files to the client. I don't really feel comfortable doing this because we don't have any voice actors, and shitty voice acting would probably take away from the game more than it adds. It is a possibility at some point in the future, but I don't see it happening right now unless Jeff decided to make it a priority. |
