what are people using to make normal maps out of interest im trying crazybump is that a suitable program?

This is more of a suggestion tbh, but I'm putting it here anyways...
Aside from this contest wouldn't it be possible to have a dedicated skins hub where anyone can submit a ship skin, others can rate it out of five stars, or out of ten, or just a like/dislike thing, but regardless of submission they all require space points to buy. 'course that probably wouldn't work if the skins are intended to have differing prices, but I'm assuming they'd all be the same cost as it just makes more sense (cmon guys, this isn't league of legends). Along with that there could just be a 'Test Skin' option or something that allows use of the skin client-side. I'm not sure if this has come up before and idk if this would cause some sort of lag issue or something, but if no I don't see why it can't or shouldn't be done since it'd just promote microtransactions. I mean, just think about it, endless skin choices because they're player submitted, endless possible profits for the game depending on how popular some skins get, endless individual diversity as anyone and their mother can make a custom skin if they learn how just to buy it themselves to be unique. _________________ |

I thought we were going to be able to customize any ship we like, not just choose between two skins. Either way it's pretty cool...

(which you can tweak using layers and messing with the params a bit). But thats only the basic. Real normal map would be made either using a special export from 3d editor, or using specialized tools that i don't know the name off . On the hub thing. Maybe someday, but skins currently need to be added to the client in a patch before they can be used. Not to mention added to the server side definition and everything. Automating it, while possible, is also way more work than just handling them by hand in the beginning. Not to mention, too many skins on a ship would eventually make all ships even more blend, since they would lose their style so to speak. There need to be some kind of moderation / control over what skin goes in outside of the players control. _________________ One of the first and proud flight controller. model skin will be possible, but for the first iteration we only want textures.

Marijuana Wave(+) ...again. Poseidon Wave+ has no glowmap so I had to do the <glowmap></glowmap> stuff.
Name(s): Marijuana Wave(+), High Tides, Mary Jane And here are the textures. The top is the + and the bottom is the normal. Unfortunately, the way SS looks at glowmaps has changed slightly. When I first did the Marijuana Wave (Page 2 Ship Submissions) the glow was much brighter and more crisp. When I used that same glow map, it was very fuzzy and had black marks over it, so I had to redo it. Do you need screenshots of every angle? the debug command doesnt seem to work for me it defaults to testskin.png whatever i type as the .png in the command line. Even if I rename my skin testskin.png it doesnt seem to do anything?
