No, removing the neural keysyncs you find in for example Olympus and instead having the next wormhole unlock when all (or most) enemies are dead.

Yes the Shofixti not only have the special ability to blow up their ship, but in the pre-story line of Star Control 2 they actually detonated their own sun when the main Ur-Quan fleet was passing though wiping out a huge portion of the Ur-Quan armada. Oh and sorry pixel but the Syreen are alien space sluts,, just telling it like it is.

I think we can all agree though that the Druuge are the ultimate Star Control race. I mean, a ship that depends on throwing its own crew into the "matter to energy conversion furnace" in order to power the ship. What is more badass than that?
