but I too am concerned about lag- I use my laptop to play and it's not really a games-machine... if textures and dynamic lighting could be toggled off I'd be a lot more confident...

My computer can cope just fine, I was making the suggestion for the people who CANT cope with the lag, of course I assumed that it was server-side, but i was wrong so ignore me.

Rember everyone just because the game client is 3-d dosen't mean the player view is 3-d. It just makes everything look better, run better/faster etc. U can have a 2-d player view with a 3-d client.

Which makes it all the more futile. It's easy to make 2D look better than 3D so without an actual 3D game the models are pointless.
