I'm playing in Durham, NC, on a 10 Mb/s connection. My average server delay is around 300ms, randomly getting up to 550ms+ at times. I don't need to emphasize that this is unacceptably high when doing something delicate like killing UZ Princess on Speed Demon. Is this usual, and if not, how can I reduce it? I'm playing on lowest possible settings.
Even worse, I sometimes have to wait over a second for my shots to fire. I suppose this means that while my average server delay is 300-600ms, there are periodic delays that are much worse. _________________ Hi, I'm Anil, a long-time player turned developer. My normal delay is 150-300, which I think is awesome. When it hits 1500-6000(don't ask), I reset my router. That fixes my problem.

I'm seeing markedly increased latency as well, even though I seem to be able to ping starsonata.com at roughly the rate I have come to expect.

The server had some performance issues for the past weeks or so. During today downtime i fixed most of those, bringing it back to a framerate about 200% faster than we used to have a few uni ago.
The delay you see in the top of the client is slightly different from regular ping, in the sense that, its the delay before the server answer the message which include the server framerate. (more often than not, you probably had about 160-200ms higher on there than the regular ping). Now that the server is back to a more than good speed. you should see about 50-100ms delay above the regular ping. Thats pretty much as good as it will get. I dont have any control over the network path your connection take to reach our server. If it happen to pass by slow/broken gateway, there isnt much i can do about that unfortunatly. But that should also affect your regular ping. _________________ One of the first and proud flight controller. Visit our website: http://www.ef-team.com |
