Using RTS commands in some areas causes drones to stop firing.

My BFDs in olduvai gorge wouldn't shoot anything but knight, when I tried to use RTS commands they stopped firing.

Team mate says his armada infernos stopped shooting in james watt.

Drones usually pick a target and stick with it until its dead, so I'm not to sure it is a problem. And using bfd's for killing a swarm of zebras isn't the greatest idea haha

It's not a bug with the drones. It's not a bug with the RTS controls. It is a problem with the RTS controls.

If you set a target for the drones to work on(enemies by default, allies if healing), the drones stay focused on THAT target until it dies. If target goes outside max range or stealth, the drones continue to focus on it.

It should be that if the target does that, it defaults back to "Not Blue, Shoot" code.

You don't know what you're talking about. Its not out of range or stealthed. The drones simply stop firing completely, or fire at knight every now and then and then stop. They never fire at the selected target.
