I know it was not like this last uni. My older trade slaves still have the bonus. Why do the new ones not?

Class skills on trade slaves was removed multiple universes ago...

Same reason they removed class skills affecting bases / drones. They don't want your combat focus to affect your permanent assets or trade slaves.

Makes sense, since it makes it awkward to balance, and made players do things like only hold bases on Engineer characters etc. Which is dumb.

Everyone gets the same trade slaves, unless they have the TRADE skill that buffs them.

That does not even remotely answer my question. You have five account slots, why would you not make an engi just for your bases and drones? Or two? Why would you not have one SD for light fast freight and then the two engis for heavy freight, or one engi for your attack bases and a SMonk for your defence bases. This is why we cannot keep new players, they get slaughtered expecting their bases to have a shield bonus they do not have.

How is that not balanced? If the classes are balanced, then the bases should also be balanced. high ROF for Sd, multi for zerk, high shield and regen for Smonk, and energy for engi. Yes, there is going to be a bonus on defence. GOOD! Attacking something should be HARD. New players need a reprieve if we are ging to keep them.

There is no reason for a new player to expect their Engineer's skills to apply to their bases. You only expect this because this is how it used to be.

Balance seems to mean something different to you than it actually means. Good luck arguing this point...

I don't like if players are "forced to" pick their class based on bonuses it give to permanent assets. Back in the day berserker was the best trade slave class because of zerker speed auras so all my mfm alts were zerkers. Bit later it was removed and all my mfm alts became engi because engi adds tiny bit of slave tweaking to trade slaves. If this engi feature is going to be changed (or if they changed it already) I could see myself making all mfm alts SD with 2nd hull expansion subskill. Or FC with tweaked subskill if that works on trade slaves. I just don't see this type of thing being a good feature in a sandbox mmo. Majority of players would prefer to pick their class purely based on combat.

Yea back before this was changed, Support Focus had the best hauling slaves. Simply because they got more hullspace than any other class. That's unfair.

Same reason every "storage alt" was Support Focus. Their Sing Spheres/Thatches had way more hull than anyone else. Forcing players to go certain classes to do passive things like store your fucking gear? That's bad game design.

Things like storage and trade bots and bases, every class should have the exact same footing. Which they have done, pretty much entirely.
