One way to reduce the "fuzzy" look is to make the glow map darker. This means less glow but also allot less fuzz which can make it look pretty good even if its dimmer.

Very interesting points
With all of that said... My first attempt at a glow map on the Behemoth. Behemoth near bright sun. Behemoth near dark sun. Any and all comments are necessary before I continue with these! I need to perfect this before moving on. _________________ Time flies when you're throwing clocks. |

Please copy and save all pictures before they are deleted off of imgur.com!
Edit: Never mind the above statement. I dont really find a use for albums, or having to keep anything in an account, anymore. If an image goes down, I'll put it back up. Individual images last pretty much forever, but I uploaded these all at the same time, so it may or may not get deleted.
Edit: aibase3 http://i.imgur.com/AaVkX.jpg Code: <aibase index="3"> <default> <model>aibase3.x</model> <texture>aibase3.png</texture> <glowmap>aibase3GlowMap.jpg</glowmap> <startframe>1</startframe> </default> </aibase> Edit2: -Deleted- Edit3: To Churchill- Oh I see now, images disappear from the original upload page, but they don't ever get deleted anyways. So its all good, no accounts needed Edit4: Okay, so it seems Glow maps dont work for AI stations. Cool. Focusing on ships then. Updated all ships on first page to reflect all GlowMap or other changes. All updated ships have 5/27/11 as the date, so you can Ctrl + F that date to scroll through the changes.

I was looking at your glowmaps and wondering why they are so dark? I looked at what's currently the Behemoth glowmap and see that it's just awful quality and highly pixelated. Were you maybe just trying to get rid of the pixelation? I think I made a better version of the Behemoth glowmap by selecting the windows of the texture using magic wand and then running a 1 pixel blur over it to anti-alias the lights.

Actually I purposefully made them like that as I decreased the size of the glow. Glow for most of the ships, even when this dark, looks very fuzzy and highly distracting. Lowering brightness gave them better glows.
However, now that the glowmaps are finished I can go back and remake them based on the current size and brightness I got to via pixilizing to make the areas of glow smaller and darker. Edit: actually the behemoth glowmap was made by someone else, I just added to it. But yeah, remaking em. _________________ Time flies when you're throwing clocks. |

I just uploaded my take on a Behemoth glow map to the repository if you run your C2 patchbot.

Here's the issue with how brightness greatly affects glowmaps.
------------- Following two pictures are what you presented for the glowmap of the Behemoth, while playing the game at very high graphics. The glow itself is very fuzzy when shifted sideways, and very bright at all times, even when being massively lit up by the sun. ------------ Here was my first attempt, using the behemoth glowmap that was provided already. Note that this was in fact my very first attempt at any glowmap at all, and as I said I plan to remake the current ones so far so that they are better quality. Notice how, in this particular case, the windows of the ship only really glow when it's dark. So when the sun is blinding one side of the ship, its "night" on the other, and so the glow is visible. ----------- Now, using your glowmap, I hued it to yellow, and made it very very dark compared to what it was. Even still the glow is fuzzy, and the main reason is because in the glowmap, the spots are very large. They need to be very tiny for this particular ship to have the "window" effect. Etc etc, youre ingame. _________________ Time flies when you're throwing clocks. |

Faranji Stinger ( Gave same model/texture as Spearhead, since in C1 its just a different texture of Spearhead anyways. )
Code: <ship index="200"> <default> <model>Spearhead.obj</model> <texture>Spearhead.jpg</texture> <rotationoffset>180, 0, 180</rotationoffset> <enginemounts> <mount0>0.0, 0.0, -28.0</mount0> </enginemounts> </default> <combat/> <travel/> </ship> Also, final version of the Behemoth Glowmap (unless I get comments/suggestions of course! ) Behemoth http://i.imgur.com/DcCkg.jpg Behemoth+ http://i.imgur.com/DveMc.jpg _________________ Time flies when you're throwing clocks. |

Mzungu Liquid ( Fixed Engine ) 5/28/11
Code: <ship index="7"> <default> <model>MzunguLiquid.obj</model> <texture>MzunguLiquid.jpg</texture> <enginemounts> <mount0>0.0, 0, -50.0</mount0> </enginemounts> </default> <combat/> <travel/> </ship> (note, I also add these to the front page) Edit: Just showing a couple of screenshots of the Big Green (and also glow for lights apply for Green Battleship) Again, like behemoth, the lights on the ship glow only when its dark out, because the light from a sun will overpower it. Pay no attention to Bob. _________________ Time flies when you're throwing clocks. |

probably the biggest issue with the behemoth in particular is the size of its texture. And try to make a new thread for each ship submission please.

OK, thanks, I've got all your sumbitted changes into my local ships.xml. Are the Behemoth and Behemoth+ glowmaps the same? If not, it seems like they probably could be to save memory.
