Were the .obj's oriented the correct way? Or did you have to do a rotation to get them oriented correctly?

I had to rotate them by 90 degrees on the Y axis.

So clockwise, +90 degrees?

Yes.

Looking great, good work :)

..Don't hate me, but I did change the sphere texture a bit to be a little more appropriate. I'll post a download link; it should get rid of that weird line issue. It looks like it is still here in this screenshot, but I changed the texture without doing a full render and it looks good.

Ninja edit:
Particles look badass by the way, I'm sure they look even better flying around! Good job on that.

I put that texture on...

I still get the line, and the sphere lines don't look right.

Is the client resizing the texture automatically? It looks like it halved the resolution or something.

That definitely seems to be the case... That's the only thing that could cause that much distortion in size, automatic texture compression.

I do have DDS toggled on (but not a DDS version of the texture).

Edit: Turning DDS textures off made no visible difference.

Are the textures cached or something? I'm sure they are somewhere, but does closing the client actually clear that cache if so?... Sounds like a question for Jey!

I guess it doesn't matter ultimately; Jeff will want to have them rotate anyways, so when he goes to do that, we'll figure out the texture issue.

Spoke to Jey.

Having "High quality textures" unchecked scales them down.

With it checked, it looks good, so I'll commit the new texture.

Good work, captain Blue!

It has a tail!

The design didn't quite work out like in the original reference for the spheres, mainly because it didn't go with the rest of the texture, so I modded the idea a bit with a little bevel and it turned out okay. It won't look that good in-game, but nothing ever looks as good as sexy mental ray renders in Maya :)
