The higher ping might result in a slight variance in your ability to dodge a bullet, but lag is caused byt he server being overwhelmed. Doubling the server Horsepower should result in a net decrease in perceived lag. I have done large scale performance projects for almost a decade, and never once seen people complain more on bigger hardware. With your new multithreading code in Jeff, this would give the server a lot more frames per second and result in considerably less perceived lag. My average response time on that website linked above was 270ms Liquidweb = 123ms kattare = 143ms 256ms Average for the website. My lowest was 230ms. I got 154ms lowest on one of the previous tests, couldnt figure out how to copy and paste it at first. |

Most of it is client side, anyway. Clear up your bandwidth and old files off your comp and you'll lower your ping.

The proposed server gives double the ping i have now. Could the testserver be changed so that we can actualy test the speeds?
Maybe something 1337 like "current ping = Y, new ping = Y * 2. That way the ppl in EU can test it. |
