In my attempt to reduce the possibility of client lag breaking the game (especially in intense fighting), i present you LagKiller. Its tutorial bot geek cousin, he constantly watch your fps, if it drop too low for too long, he will start slashing away stuff until the fps come back up (once the actions calm down, the stuff he slashed away are brought back, unless you reached the last hope stage).
Thats what i used to do the performance tests, beta client get stuck at 0fps in debug on my machine in there. The client current code without the lagkiller drop to 3fps. And the lastest version with lagkiller get a whooping 16fps. All those fps value are for my machine in debug mode (a huge lot slower than release), on release with the current code, i am unfortunatly unable to get the lagkiller to show up XD. As with other big images, click to get the unscaled one. P.S. i saw the typo, its fixed already but i dont want to take another screenshot ! _________________ One of the first and proud flight controller. Visit our website: http://www.ef-team.com |

So when you say he starts slashing "stuff", you mean local processes or graphic options?

its limited to the client it wont go killing your other processes .
Its mostly graphical stuff, in the first few level, it doesnt actually disable anything, it just spread the particules updates on more frame, and the z position update calculation (so particules and going over planets etc get laggy while the game isnt as much). higher level it start disabling stuff, particules are completly disabled first, after that, the post processing (if your at high/very high), if that wasnt enough it also disable the transparance rendering (at that point, a lot of things disapear). _________________ One of the first and proud flight controller. Someone should develop a process killer for dynamic gaming :p |

Hmm, if you have 12gb of ram and still get this no amount of slashing 'back grounded' applications will make it much better =c.
I wish star sonata would make more server bases, like in Australia o.o _________________ http://i52.tinypic.com/10sg6y9.jpg Mod's. Just being high^ |

how many times must i tell you guys... its not touching anything outside of ss2 ! its not killing your processes and whatnot. it only disable features IN the game so that the fps goes back up a bit.
So long as you have more than 1.5gb memory free, no ammount of extra memory will make any differences as far as ss2 performance is concerned. There are some issues right now on specific systems causing it to be much slower than it should. We are investigating this and will resolve it over time (hopefully a short period of time). _________________ One of the first and proud flight controller. Visit our website: http://www.ef-team.com |

This is brilliant!! I experienced this code when I loaded my main storage cargo hold. I saw in chat it was attempting to lower the visual settings. I think there's a fault with the huge ass storage ship lists but this code defiantly works when needed and defiantly didn't effect any of my other programs when C2 resorted to 1 frame per 5 seconds.

yes we know about the lag on huge inventory. some optimizations were added recently. but its not near finalised, we will need to rewrite that part to support much higher number before feeling any lag.

Dammit Jey you are right. I am having major problems probobly because i am using XP. But I added another couple of Meg of ram and it had precisely zero effect, (except on my wallet) :) . I wish I had read your post first .

Absolutely brilliant. Is this being added to the client? If not it should be. I cant tell you the number of times iv wanted to play around solo with high graphic settings then turn it down for oly runs and the like on C1 when shit gets graphically intensive.

It should be live right now. If you play in windowed mode, you can see next to the fps counter the level of lagkiller currently active. _________________ uhmari wrote: When i look at uhmari, I can see clearly the problems in it |

its still under improvement tho. right now i feel its too slow and drastic to kick in. i want something that is more gradual and quick to react so to speak. (with less msg spam too )

LagKiller gets triggered when you open a huge inventory and when you give focus to a window that's been inactive a while whilst using the option to deactivate out of focus windows. I have to turn off that option if i want to be able to browse the web while playing, or else it just goes nuts when i turn back to SS.
