This proposal is to make an optional C1-like docked UI on the left side of the screen which will be defaulted to on for new players, but can be turned off, which would revert the UI to how it currently is.
The chat would get moved somewhat to the right to make room, and the left would be fully split between inventory and galaxy map. Floaties would wrap around to the inside of the dock. Your ship would then be centered in the non-dock portion of the screen, i.e. a bit to the right of the center of your monitor. A mockup is attached. The reasoning behind this is that we saw in the livestream of a new player trying the game that he got really confused by the inventory. If the inventory is permanently visible, then maybe it will make more sense. I've also been playing with my windows here recently and actually think I prefer it this way and think a lot of other people might, too. This suggestion will go well with other suggestions regarding replacing the gal map with a c1-like version. I think new players are confused more because they have no idea what all the little UI features mean. The button for inventory is hidden away in the bottom right corner and the image on it has really nothing to do with an inventory. The same goes for most other features of the UI as well.
I don't know of any modern games with a permanently displayed inventory. That was one of the most regressive aspects of C1 in my opinion as well. The way forward is to make it so new players don't have to struggle to figure out how to open up things like the inventory and map, not to permanently paste these on the screen. _________________ Hi, I'm Anil, a long-time player turned developer. The problem with this is the advantage players get while playing in c2 over c1 mode. obviously playing in c2 mode will grant a larger view than players in c1 mode.
Its kind of the same thing that happened in c1 were players with a huge resolution were able to see far past players with a smaller screen/resolution. _________________ Death to Pirates! http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/2103/mutes.jpg |

Can we also have a target box back with arrows and iamges that actually work?
That would be great with this suggestion Timmeh _________________ andezrhode2a wrote: Timmeh is the exception to every rule. Battlecruiser23 wrote: /Timmeh! I mean /signed! sabre198 wrote: 1. Create C2 2. Time Warp quits 3. New players join 4. ... Profit?!? |

Follow EVE Online's example and make all UI elements resizable, lockable and perhaps with adjustable transparency. To appease people who don't care and don't want to fiddle with it, make a couple of "preset" UI options, potentially including this one.

Its fucking optional lol.. People that downvoted it on the polls seemed to have missed the first word of the suggestion...

Yes please. As someone who moves his shit around to match C1, this sounds great.

in addition to this, can we also please have a button that closes all open inventory windows of other owned ships?

just had another idea on this one actually: how about making it slide to disappear whenever your mouse isnt near the left side of the screen for some time, and make it slide to visibility when your mouse is all left? that would still keep the bigger screen when you don't directly NEED the docked info

A more generalized (and more likable?) version of this would be to add the ability to pin any gui item to its current location, with said selections being saved (to user disk). That way people can build their vaunted C1 docked UI on the side if they want or do whatever else they might want. Sometimes you dont want to be able to move pieces of the gui with slight misclicks
