After all these years, I'd still like to maintain my position that C2 was a large mistake in most regards. It was a poor choice to gut the artstyle, and go from high quality textures to poor models that simply don't age well. Not only does it look low quality, but it increases the amount of work required to pump content in the game just by complexity.
Imagine what cool tech could have been put into C2 if it was still a 2D top down? I'dve killed for dynamic lighting on ship, weapon, and celestial object textures. _________________ Blue Dwarf wrote: In space, no one can hear you cha cha cha. |

Seems like it was one of those things where they were in too deep.

Yeah the 3D was a really bad choice. Besides the graphics I think C2 is a huge improvement from C1 though.

Yeah, inventory management is a lot better in C2, and the UI is a bit more modifiable now. SI has already worked up a few cool add-ons like resizable inventories that would never have been possible in C1. The ability to zoom out and drag the screen around is also a big plus, although I wish we could extend those even farther for those 20k distance BvB engagements.

FFS. C1 is gone. C2 is much better. Deal with it. Also be reminded that nostalgia forgets all the bad shit.

Don't get me wrong, C2 came with many improvements. However, I don't believe any of these improvements hinged on having a new artstyle accompanying the game.
Resuzable ui was a godsend for example, but I can't think of any reason why that wouldn't be possible in a C2 where the graphics resembled C1. _________________ Blue Dwarf wrote: In space, no one can hear you cha cha cha. |

I never really got into C2 either and have always missed C1.
I agree what Makka said about nostalgia but from the day C1 left I longed for it. Never have I missed C2. Sure the graphics are better and there has been loads of optimizations, new content etc with C2 but I felt it was always missing something that died with C1. What that is I can't put my finger on. Maybe it is just nostalgia though... _________________ I found Nemo! |

Well I recently returned and I think C2 is grapichally awful. C1 was crisp clean and indie. I watched some BvB last night... graphically it looked half done and quite frankly atrocious.

After all these years since C2 was released and devs haven't fixed the damned engines. That's one of the main reason i fell in love with SS. i would use a BMT or a MFC just for the sprites. C2 engines are a joke and all look the same to me. Who doesn't miss an annihilator thruster?
Ship designs are also a joke. Meh, i can't even identify the pax lines anymore and now there's a bunch of ship which looks the same as parsley and basil. C2 is half ass done and im betting that if Jeff would have sold his shares instead, this game would have boomed a long time ago. Jeff just doesn't have the vision for this game. |

SS is in this stage where its here, people who play it like it, they know its a great game. Yet it will never have many players becouse it already reached its peak.

C2 concept looks great. Graphics are poor in my opinion. Lot of unsorted issues like bugs etc
Steam release takes to long. Owner should hire professionals. No offence to current developers. If not, change owner. _________________ ahileus |
