Is there an anime with a star sonata-like theme?
Like, with space pirates, a galactic federation, space combat strategy, missions and stuff... Any ideas? |

Cowboy Bebop
They're like. Bounty hunters. Space Battleship Yamato Yamato is a cool ass space battleship that's like.. huge. There's also "Planets" and "Space Dandy" but I haven't watched them (yet?). |

Captain Harlock
Space Pirate, have space battles some times. There is a 3d western "anime" film on netflix, also anime series somewhere around the web. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Doesn't start as a space anime, but the last season (out of 2) is mainly in space. Have some battles. Space Battleship Yamato (Japanese name: Uchuu Senkan Yamato)is intresting indeed, I seen the new version of it (Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 ). Think it's the closest thing you can get that I know of that falls into your description. _________________ Valkyrie300 wrote: You need to thoroughly think before sprouting exaggerated statements |

Detective Conan (Case Closed in the Funimation dub), it's totally about space I swear (and even if it's not you won't be disappointed).

That actually had a good storyline. _________________ Valkyrie300 wrote: You need to thoroughly think before sprouting exaggerated statements |

Planetes is actually the only anime I own on DVD since there was no [legal] streaming of it. _________________ P2P (Offline): Copernicus/Tycho/Kepler/Starlight Squadron/Starlight Droners Inc. Watch Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star for classics, Space Dandy is new and can have a similar feel to Bebop, Gundam 00 is a easy one to get into.

This:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9ktgN80MP4 If you decide to watch it, instead of watching the first 2 episodes, watch the movie: Overture of a new war. Also no one mentioned Macross (no 7 or frontier shit). Last edited by Dispatched on Sun May 08, 2016 6:53 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

Cowboy Beebop is fantastic, if you enjoyed Firefly it's pretty much a continuation of that but in anime form with Jazz.
Space Pirate Dandy is pretty good, I've seen 4 episodes from when it was on TV and loved it. Follows a 'greaser' looking alien hunter who is on the search for new species to register with the Government for a reward. It has a similar format to South Park, one episode he may die and then in the next he'll refer to something he did in that previous episode. Gundam Wing was the shit, was the first anime I had ever watched and was blown away by it. I haven't seen any of the continued versions like Seed and whatever the other one is, but Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was quality shit. Space Pirate Captain Harlock had a cool storyline and awesome animation, but do not watch the dubbed version, all the voice actors sound the same. I am almost certain one guy does all the male voices for it. Legit the only anime you want the non-dubbed version for. I've also heard good things about Neon Genesis Evangelion but have never seen it myself as I haven't found an English version. |

Don't get me wrong, Firefly was amazing but it was also 1 season and a film.
Cowboy Beebop is the closest you can get to a Sequel and even then it was made before Firefly. |
