Post Compromise proposal on WS
OK, i am giving this one last go, so no one can say they where not warned.

First, we are going to look at the steam releases, FTP arcade style MMO since last uni. We are going to look only at the number of positive reviews and assume that for ever one of these, the game gained 2 players (that is in my experience very low)

http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Massively%20Multiplayer/#tag%5B%5D=3859&p=0&tab=NewReleases

Shop Heros, Augest 15, 522 positive reviews
Strike.IS released july 14, 652 positive reviews
Age of Caveman May 24 234 Positive reviews
Battlestick May 6, 200 positive reviews

I would like to stop and discuss battlestick a second here. It looks like shit. If you offered me $200 to play that game for a week, i might very well say "No", that is how shit that game looks like. Yet right their on their front page they are boasting about having 100,000 players sign up in a MONTH! For a game that looks like shit and has almost certainly never seen the front page of steam. However many times we have heard "Graphics are potato" I think we can all agree star sonata is better then battlestick.

Which brings us to the WS reduction. Many people seem to feel that WS is to spread out, with large teams far apart. Other seem to hold that shrinking WS will result in smaller, newer teams being crowded out by bigger teams. On top of this, you have the increase in base slots, which i am not certain is being fully utilized yet, as it was introduced late in the uni.

I would like to propose what i consider a compromise solution. Keep WS at 600 galaxies and reduce the number that are W3.

Sadly, i do not have bobbo's lovely tools, nor skills.

I do not for a second insist on 12 arms, just more then 2 would be nice. This design has several points.

1) maintains a small(er) w3 space for high end teams to occupy while keeping the overall space the same.

2) forces teams to think strategically about trade-offs; "Do i hug the side for low rewards or charge the center for high rewards"?

3) Allows small or new teams to "Occupy a wing" trading safety for resources, and allowing/encouraging them to think about pooled defenses, IE Barricade Galaxies.

4) Allows specific space for small or new teams to occupy encouraging more teams and thus more subscribers.

Before you reply, i again beg you to consider, 100,000 players in 1 month. Would they stay if they showed up and saw a subscriber area filled with level 3000 players firmly entrenched? Would you?

I think this is funny because someone has been blatantly ignoring the developers' Wild Space layout change.

if 100k players show up on release I suspect they would be open to increasing size of uni on next seed.

If that many show up I think we may have to do an emergency uni reset 2 months in :D

honestly doubt that they would occupy up the remainder of wild space. Only a portion of them willl go from lvl 0 to base builder within that uni.

If there is a lot of interest, we can look into a cooler shape for uni after next. This time we are going with the simple disk shape because it's the best we could do on short notice.
