In an effort to codify and eliminate a manually enforced rule, we are proposing to add a new restriction on deploying bases where a new unattached base must be within 15k distance of either a planet, moon, sun, or wormhole. This is to prevent people from laying bases way, way out and being annoying.

There will need to be an exception for those empty galaxies, so people can connect all of their territory.
Or you could, you know, put stuff in them so they aren't a waste of a galaxy. _________________ Dorin Nube wrote: Nipples aren't the only danger here. |

Sounds good to me. Things are generally better coded than manually enforced (or not, as the case may sometimes be).

Sounds good, but what about non stationary items, such as orbiting moons, planets or suns? Will the 15k distance be calculated from the exact point the item is orbiting around?

Seems undeeded. When someone is abusing that rule to exploit it is clearly obvious and should simply be more harshly punished.

Unless there is a code preventing it, people will find ways to just cross that line in such a small manner so it would seem wrong to punish them. Which would lead to discussions.

Then why not simply boost base vis across the board? Is there any reason you can even make a stealthy kit?

You can always cover the kit with Obfuscators and likewise. There will always be ways to exploit it unless there is set a hard code.

As I said, nothing can cloak 900k vis

Also Planets move. a base that WAS 15k from a planet at one point in time may not be 15k from that planet at another, just making things extremely annoying.
I'd prefer base kits themselves to just be given an extreme amount of visibility, so much that it would be impossible to conceal them. @TLO Electron Cloud type items have 30 second cooldown now^ _________________ Octo wrote: QFT Octo either owned the fish initially, or scooped it when he podded any/all of the above. |

I like Jeff's proposal. I can't see any need for people to place a base farther out than that except for the reasons that rules were made to prevent. If there is a way to hard code it that still allows for quite a bit of flexibility, go for it.
